FLASHBACK : The Best Laid Plans...

We certainly didn’t intend to live in Belgium. My husband Dan, a Vice president of HR in the US and Canada for a major French company, and I, as an HR consultant for an international consulting firm, loved to travel to Europe. We went as often as we could.

Our interests were, for the most part, transportable. Dan is an avid runner who routinely logged 5-6 miles a day. He loved exploring foreign cities at a jogger’s pace. I loved drawing, painting, and flea markets, all of which were even more fun in a new location. We both loved languages and people.

SERENDIPITY

Ser*en*dip*i*ty (noun) The occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way; not finding what one is searching for, but finding something better.

Serendipity. That pretty much sums up our life here. I'm a transplanted American, living in the Belgian Ardennes, near Germany and The Netherlands, in an area where three cultures clash and co-exist. I used to have a stress-filled life, working as a management consultant all over the US and Canada. About 8 years ago, my husband and I quit our jobs and moved to Europe. Now we teach English as a second language to business people here. We came here for two or three years. We're still here. 'Nuff said. I love to cook, to travel, to paint and to write. I try to do all of those as often as I can. I hope you'll find here tales of our life as we sometimes struggle with other languages and other ways. You'll also find some paintings. And some recipes, because I love to cook. My husband loves to eat. Perfect!
