In Praise of Summer Fruit

It's a little early for most of these, but it's not too early to start looking forward to them. The fruit of summer is one of the joys of living here. We have local fruit starting now, with the early strawberries and right through the summer with cherries, plums, apricots, peaches, nectarines, blackberries, red and black currants. Into the autumn we have apples and pears. Every month there is a new treat. I'm ready.

What's your favorite summer fruit? What do you do with it?

We're off for a long weekend. I'll post some photos for you when we get back--assuming it doesn't rain all weekend...cross your fingers for us, ok?

Beautiful pictures! I love summer fruit!

Right now, I'm just a little bit addicted to grilled plums. Split, a little olive oil and balsamic and a sprinkling of salt and pepper. Grill. Yum. Great with vanilla ice cream or even chicken!

Marvelous photos, Kate. I adore fruit, but must admit my favorites are always stone fruits.
Have a fun long weekend!

Today my favorite summer fruit is strawberries. The sun is shining, and we're making shortcake this afternoon. Tomorrow--who knows?

I like stone fruit best, mostly peaches and nectarines. And actually, when they are really good, I don't do anything to them--I just like to eat them plain.

Right now I love cherries, I am eating them with everything! Pitted in salads, under Greek yogurt, on pancakes, Baked in tarts. July I fall in love with the local plums, blueberries and blackberries. Come August I pick up an Atlanta trip so I can indulge in Georgia peaches. Nothing like a Georgia peach! I love summer fruit!

Glorious fruit photos, Kate! Really beautiful. Have you found found that there are any fresh fruits available in Belgium that simply aren't easily accessible in the U.S.? Anything unusual perhaps?

Peaches and blueberries are definitely my favorite. Sometimes I have them together with Greek vanilla honey yogurt. But I especially love them in cobbler.

Lovely photos!

Serendipity indeed - while in NYC recently (April) visiting my son, I googled MY blog and found yours, with beautiful photography and mouth-watering pics. Your post on histograms was just what I needed - thank you!

Kate,

Your pictures of the fruit are wonderful. Sorry about your mojo!!!

However, the pizza looks wonderful. I have not made pizza for a while. I am not longer able to caramelize onions so I am giving it a rest.

Hope you had a nice weekend.
