IN PRAISE OF BROTHERS

Brothers are the people we practice on, the people who teach us about fairness and cooperation and kindness and caring--quite often the hard way. - Pamela Dugdale

Rest in peace, Mike. I love you.

This is not the post I wanted to make today. It's not a post that I ever wanted to make. While we were in Nice I received a phone call that my oldest brother had died unexpectedly. I was glad that I was with friends when I heard, but veryvery sad not to be with my family on that day.

Please keep him in your prayers today. My mom too. She never expected to have to do this.

Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. My deepest condolences to you and your family. I lost a sister almost 18 years ago and the hole it leaves behind in your family is so acute and difficult. My thoughts are with you.

Thank you all for your kind comments. It's harder than I would have ever thought. Finding these messages makes a difference for me.

The photo is from Life Magazine, many many years ago. I always loved it, and it always made me think of Mike and me. I'm not sure why, but it does.

We're trying to get back to normal life here, and I"ll be around now for a while.

Thanks again.

Dear Kate,

I'm so very sorry to hear about your brother. How awful. My heart goes out to you. It must be very difficult indeed to be away from family now.
I will say a prayer for you and your mom tonight.
